It is with great pride that I send this out.  The Southtown saints HS rugby club will be playing in the NYSRC class "B" championship game on Sunday 6/6, 1:00
@ Aardark park vs Canandaigua.

Coach Pete and I would love to see you there. The Saints began as and continue to be the Junior club for South buffalo rugby. Try to come out and support us as we play in our first ever championship game.

The Team earned a spot in the finals with an EPIC playoff victory over previosly
undefeated and top seeded  Hamburg. The Bulldogs had beaten the Saints by a total score of 76-12in thier two regular season games. The game was almost unreal. Both sides tackled like machines and played hard determined rugby. Two broken plays leading to long Hamburg tries left the score 10-0 and although the Saints pounded on the the door, Hamburg continued to hold them off with 4 potential tries held up in goal late in the second half. Then with 3 min left and still down 10-0 it happend. Miguel Santana, and  Michel Feirabend pounded the defense inside and the ball moved thru the hands out to Davon "vonvon" Virgil who off loaded to Winger Zach Mazierski who  stiff armed a defender and touched down in the corner With 2 mins to play it was 10-5. Big Mike "Lurch" Feirabend pulled in the ensuing kickoff and and the Saints put together a series of phases until Hamburg was whistled of sides about 35 meters out. Jamison Trippy quick tapped, darted through the defense and passed to Zac zabawa 10 meters out. Zabawa crashed though two defenders and scored about 0 meter to the rigth off the posts. Then Dan dillon cooly hit the conversion as the referee blew the final whistle and somehow the final score read:
                                      SAINTS 12 - Bulldogs 10
It was one of those rare games, surreal, the stuff of movies. The lads gave everything thing they had and executed the game plan perfectly. We knew we  needed a perfect game from everyone, and we got it. Trippy was a beast, terrorizing the opposing scrumhalf. Mike Puntoriero and Topper dominated the rucks. Miguel,Lumi,  Zabawa and Lurch were keys on defense. Liam L  & Dillon led the backs, and Von Von  made more then a few try saving tackles.

But the Man of the Match went to Kyle Irizarry who was assigned to play defense on the Bulldogs Flyhalf who had shrrede the Saints in the earlier games. Kyle led the saints defensive and effectively shut down the Bulldogs high powered backline. Tries: Mazierski, Zabawa Conv: Dillon.

The Saints came out on top in a hard fought, wet contest . The Centaurs came out hitting and rucked well. The Saints great defense and some new found passing prowess were the difference. Tries: Dillon, Virgil, Zabawa, Conv Lopez(2)
Trippy, in his first SH start led the team along with the hard running of Lurch, Topper and Hurlbet. Bob Santiago led the defense with 20+ tackles.
Well done Lads!

South Side lost a hard fought but outmatched game against a powerful Hamburg team on their first game of the season.  Our inexperienced side fought hard and learned a lot in our first game of the season.
